The Journey of an Armchair Revolutionary
Chapter 1: Prelude
I was a social democrat for a good portion of my life. Once, I was an environmentalist, and later on I was furiously against Christain fundamentalism after I saw the stupidity of the Creationist movement. So, my social democratic politics were somewhat solid, but I wasn't really that articulated when it came to politics.
Everything changed during one of the many summer trips I had in Syria. Unlike the previous trips, I was to be in the country for an entire year. The authoritarianism, corruption, and degeneracy of the corporations and government of the country completely transformed my perceptions of politics. A nationalism to restore Syria to its former glory and a socialism to combat the country's evils soon radicalized me.
Unfortunately, I was in conflict with myself over economics. While I disliked the corporations, I was perfectly fine with the market. So, the contradiction bothered me until I searched up worker cooperatives. Suddenly, the conflict between my socialism and support for markets was resolved, though I still supported regulated markets. And so, I identified myself as a "cooperativist democratic socialist", who supported unitary government. (Which in hindsight was very ironic.) Aside from posting Facebook (Which was banned in Syria at the time) posts against Assad through internet proxies, I did very little involving politics.
When I returned from Syria, I noticed about the Tea Party movement, and I was outraged by them, their contradictions, and claims of fighting for liberty, which drove me further left. Thus, I searched for a leftist forum where I can post my passionate opinions. Of course, Revleft was the first option that popped up. At first, I lurked in the forum, and I waited for the right opportunity to join it. Eventually, I chose to join the forum. Little did I know that I would be joining the forum at the right moment, where a specific series of events would form my political opinions into what they are today.
