Re: Your top revolutionary leaders/activists/Groups
The socialist figures and movements I find most inspiring are as follows:
*Karl Marx - His critique of capital remains unsurpassed.
*Friedrich Engels - Without his contribution to the critique of political economy, it's doubtful Marxism would have developed to great extent it did.
*Pierre-Joseph Proudhon - What is Property? is one of the most important critiques of exploitative property ever written.
*Mikhail Bakunin - A brilliant critic of capitalism who also presented the most compelling case for anarchism I've ever read (though I remain unconvinced of its desirability and feasibility).
*Noam Chomsky - By far the most intelligent socialist philosopher in contemporary history.
*Georges Sorel - The most erudite revolutionary theoretician in history.
*Ernst Niekisch - Though I obviously consider the authoritarian aspects of his National Bolshevik ideology to be disagreeable, he deserves credit for revising Marxian theory in accordance with nationalist principles.
*G. A. Cohen - His impressive analytical defense of Marxism and critique of capitalism render Prof. Cohen one of the leading socialist philosophers, in my opinion.
*Jaroslav Vanek - The most persuasive advocate of market socialism I've read.
*Michael Albert - Albert's case for market abolitionism forever changed my outlook on political economy.
*Vladimir Lenin - A rather obvious candidate for greatest socialist revolutionary in history.
*Buenaventura Durruti - One of the most inspiring anarchist figures from the Spanish Civil War.
*Nicola Bombacci - He made the ultimate sacrifice assisting in the establishment of a genuinely socialist and nationalist republic in Salò.
*Ho Chi Minh - His nationalism and anti-imperialism should serve as inspiration to us all.
*Ernesto Guevara - A brave guerrilla fighter and dedicated revolutionary.
*The Spanish Anarcho-Syndicalism Revolution - I have a very personal attachment to the struggle for liberation the CNT-FAI led in Spain.
*The Paris Commune - The first mass socialist uprising (which was tragically overthrown by the forces of reaction).
*Robert Owen's New Harmony Community - Though hopelessly utopian in its aspirations, and administered in a paternalistic and highly inefficient manner, New Harmony was a vital experiment in social change.
