Are we a post-industrial society?
I'm speaking mainly of the developed world here. Are we a post-industrial society or no? Why or why not?

Re: Are we a post-industrial society?
We will be soon if things continue on in due course.
"The bourgeoisie cannot exist without constantly revolutionizing the instruments of production, and thereby the relations of production, and with them the whole relations of society." That quote is taken directly from The Communist Manifesto.
In my opinion, this is a good thing. The structural changes that will occur will only serve to increase the social power, as well as grievances, of the working class.
"If the whole class of wage-workers were to be abolished owing to machinery, how dreadful that would be for capital which, without wage labour, ceases to be capital." (Marx, Wage, Labour and Capital)
It will breed the grounds needed for a revolution to occur.

Re: Are we a post-industrial society?
Technological innovations have made the industrial sector far more capital intensive in recent decades, but our economy is still heavily dependent upon manufactured commodities. However, the economies of the global north have increasingly become orientated toward the service sector due to the flight of capital to the global south. In this sense, one could argue that we're post-industrial, but only because manufacturing is occurring elsewhere.
Re: Are we a post-industrial society?
If we're only post-industrial because manufacturing is occurring in places where the workers can be exploited even more, it seems to me that after the revolution we'll have to become an industrial society again pretty damn fast, because there won't be very many nations, or more importantly, multinational corporations, willing to sell us their goods for Fair Trade prices.
