Elections in Russia
Comrades, as we all know, this week, elections took place in Russia. A rise in the number of CPRF's supporters was expected, which would result in more votes and more seats in the Duma, but magically, United Mafia, oops, I meant, United Russia got most of the seats. Putin's popularity, along with his party's has dropped dramatically (from over 65% in 2007 to below 46% in 2011 , according to some Russian polls) in the last years. When 60% of the ballots had been counted, United Russia already had over 50.07% of the votes. A miracle? Rather cheating. Complaints were made about cheating and threatning in the election stations. There are footages and complaints about the following:
- Ballot boxes arriving with up to 1/3 of them already full of votes for United Russia
- Favors in exchange of votes
-United Russia's supporters being taken by busses known as "carousels" from one voting station to another so that they could vote more than once
- Votes suffering threats if they didn't vote for United Russia
-The people of the CPRF were not allowed to monitor the votes, only people of UR were. A few people of the CPRF who complained ended up in the hospital with a few broken bones. Magic?
While United Russia scored around 49.5% of the votes in the end, the CPRF scored 19%, Just Russia scored 13% and the ultra-nationalist Liberal Democratic Party of Russia scored 12% of the votes.
After the elections' results, people went to the streets to protest against such violations. In Moscow, 15.000 people protested and shouted phrases such as "Solidarity", "Shame on this land". The Police had blocked the access to the Red Square and after the protesters started blocking the traffic, they got arrested (what for, I wonder..?)
"Today we have witnessed the dirtiest, foulest elections of the last 20 years," one opposition leader, said Boris Nemtsov, a former deputy premier. "We can't even call them elections – it's the theft of votes from the Russian people."
"The government is losing popularity, so they're using the filthiest methods of theft," Nemtsov said.
At the Communist Party headquarters hung with portraits of Lenin and heavy gold-on-red velvet hammer-and-sickle banners, party leader Gennady Zyuganov complained of fraud and described the election as "theft on an especially grand scale".
"Despite their efforts to break public opinion, the country has refused to support United Russia," he said.
As Corruption and Oppression grow in Russia, Putin and his party United Mafia aren't doing ANYTHING. Why? Because they benefit from it, as well as the economical elite. Corruption and Crime in Russia grow faster and faster, and while the regime doesn't suffer a change, the land will not. It's about time that the people of Russia awake and realize which is the right path, and also that it will not be conquered by votes which can be frauded, but by weapons that cannot.

Re: Elections in Russia
How else can we expect bourgeoisie governments to stay entrenched in power? They have the dirtiest track records when it comes to cheating and corruption. Before this scandal I have actually never heard of the CPRF.
I did a little research and they are described as Left wing nationalists.

Their victory would have been a step in the right direction for Russia.

Re: Elections in Russia
On the heels of the biggest protests Russia has seen in nearly 20 years, the country’s resurgent opposition has given the Kremlin an ultimatum: Annul the Dec. 4 election that many see as marred by fraud and call a fresh vote, or face even larger protests in the weeks to come. That is, if the country’s fractious opposition can maintain its new-found unity that long.
Moscow’s streets – normally bustling with everything but politics – are set to see a flurry of rallies between now and the opposition’s Dec. 24 deadline for a new election date to be set. The opposition also wants to see Vladimir Churlov, chairman of the country’s Central Elections Commission, fired and replaced. He is accused of overseeing systemic fraud, including ballot-box stuffing, voter intimidation and barring all but a handful of officially approved parties from taking part.

Re: Elections in Russia
While I believe CPRF victories would certainly be an improvement over what transpires now in Russia, I am not particularly enthusiastic about the party itself. The party program, while respectable in some areas, is rather mild, and the reformist nature of the campaign is bound to ensure that even that much would never be truly enacted were the party to gain majority status in the Duma. The CPRF strikes me as "approved opposition" rather than a successor of the CPSU.
The truth of the matter is that genuine socialist or communist parties which possess perceptible influence no longer exist in the world.

Re: Elections in Russia
It is nice to see that the catastrophic collapse of the soviet union did not end socialism in Russia and the Slavic World. The CPRF is Russia's second largest party (behind Edinaya Rossiya a.k.a Putin). Socialism remains popular in Romania and the Balkans as well. When the next revolution starts,it will most likely occur in some Slavic state.
The truth is, the Soviet Union wasn't that bad. The S.U. raised Russia up from its backwards beginnings, immensely raised it's standard of living, and succeeded in hugely benefiting humanity as a whole with it's technological progress. The famed "bread lines" really only occurred over the course of a few years, and i would be shocked to see any nation recover from a devastating civil war unscathed. It is true that the economy of the late USSR stagnated, although this was no failure of socialism, but simply inept policy by Brezhnev.
Yugoslavia on the other hand, had a superb, worker-controlled economy that was celebrated throughout the world. In fact, the end of socialism there was not due to an ineffective economy, but capitalist bourgeois nationalism by Serbia and Croatia. Not only did SFRY flourish, but it did so without the support of the USSR, as Tito and Stalin were enemies. Also, I find Panslavism to be quite agreeable.

Re: Elections in Russia
Around half of the government in Russia is socialist yet Putin's party is so corrupt Russia is a capitalist country. I like the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, however I prefer Liberal Democratic Party of Russia. What would be best for Russia and the world be to have a party that is one part CPRF and 3 parts LDPR. The problem with the LDPR is they are imperialist.
