It is ridiculous in the way that many ultra liberal leftists (most probably including MRN) do see it, but what is your understanding of this concept that annoys you? Most people seem to interpret it as simply tearing a child away from its mother as soon as the umbilical cord has been cut.

Well my understanding of Marxism in the classical form is that it feels that the traditional nuclear family unit is a bourgeois institution and was actually helping to prop up capitalism with its need to consume in a certain fashion ect ect.

The more post modern Marxist (like the chap above) feel aswell as the classical Marxist view,the nuclear family is bad for women's rights becuse being a mother isn't a job and since mothers aren't paid for such a task they are being exploited by capitalism and not reaching thier full potential ie having a career ect.

Another post modern argument is the LGBT community are being discriminated against because they have difficulty adopting due to everybody's perception of what a family is.Also white liberals complain when they can't adopt children of another race due to this notion of the traditional a family.

In my opinion the nuclear family is no more exploited than any other institution in our capitalist society and I'd certainly that natural want kin based family's continue and the modern liberal and cosmopolitan lefts ideas on family get reversed post revolution.

Well I don't understand how far we can take the abolition of the family to make LGBT and mixed race families more accepted. If society is willing to "abolish the family" beyond deconstructing bourgeois family relations then I don't see why allowing things like gay marriage would be a problem.

As for the exploitation of women through the homemaker role of the mother, there are many cases in which this is a genuinely consensual arrangement between a couple. Some women hate the idea while others love it, and in a socialist society I fail to see the threat.

Rather well-spoken, but I don't think he knows who is audience is. Is he talking to marxists or conservatives? Even if he did say some things I agree with, it's a little rebuffing. If he toned it down, he may fare better in wielding influence. Additionally, instead of using the term "abolish the family," he may want to speak in terms of 'band' communism, or the most original type of family unit, since the existence of time, etc., and explain why he thinks it's better. He may be talking to a single mother who's struggling financially to keep her child, or a newlywed couple, for that matter, who are considering their future, and what steps they want to take towards changing things. He made his point, but it seems like a bit of a missed opportunity.

Marx, and to a greater extent Engels talked about how women are oppressed and 'sold into prostitution' by the institution of marriage. Are they 'post modern marxists'?
