Unique Christmas traditions from around the world
Catalunya - Tio de Nadal: The Excremental Yule Log
High in the Catalonian mountains of the Serra de Montserrat, the holiday legend of Santa Claus takes a perennial backseat to a much more intimate Christmas provider.
Known as "Caga Tio" (translation: "shit log"), the woodsy holiday gift-bearer appears at the homes of Catalonian girls and boys days before Christmas and is fed local delicacies in anticipation of the big holiday.
On Christmas morning, the little children beat the Caga Tio with a stick — their faces aglow with holiday cheer as he poops out a dazzling display of Christmas treats.
Please share any unusual Christmas traditions in this thread.

Well in Hungary, children need to be absent from the house during the decoration of the tree as the belief is that the angels actually decorate it, not the family members.

In Germany, bad kids are visited by Schwarze Peter (black pete) instead of getting coal. He carries around a bag of sticks and either places them in the kid's shoes or spanks them on the bottom with a stick.

There's a similar thing in Hungary, except the bearer of the sticks is literally a miniature manifestation of Satan himself who rides along with St. Nick

They are of course the christianised Heathen tradiditions of the English people and im sure there are many many more throughout they year Germanic and Celtic in origin however the below links deal with Christmas/Geol time.

And of course we have carol singers and midnight mass ect but as these are full blown christian things I assume they are known Europe/Worldwide.
