If you want libertoonians programing children with Rand's quasi-philosophical nonsense, then by all means treat this as a joke. But while you laugh remember that these sorts of devices are signs of inner dynamism in a movement historically and a sign it is not dieing out as you might like to do, and are in fact growing stronger and deeper roots.

The Randians are dangerous in many ways: They cannot be reasoned with as their 'rational' philosophy was cooked up by an irrational insane female, who was a slut and most like a speed or coke user judging by her erratic observed behaviors, and the fact her pupils are huge every time I see her eyes, she surly used some upper or another.

That thinking people take it seriously...it boggles the mind, I read about half of 'Atlas was a Thug', and I will never poison my mind with another word of her nonsense about well anything in fact. But...objectively:

Historically speaking ALL political movements on the way 'up' have founded some form of 'youth' or 'student' movements -- the ideas 'youth' and 'student' have meant a wide range of actually things, and been called by thousands of different terms, in many languages, after all over the centuries.

That you disagree with their political stances does not change the fact that he who takes the youth takes the field of the future ie the mind of the people of the future. To treat this a joke is to me very reckless, as insane simplistic movements like this have a way of either themselves or becoming a catalyst for the current leadership to either establish a dictatorship, or anarchy or perhaps 'rapid violent decentralization' might be a better term, very rapidly, and very brutally.

These fools will not make the situation better short term but THEY will create a massive 'helot' uprising upon themselves if they ever obtain any real power. The problem is that in the short term they provide the 'excuse' for the 'left' --actually center of left and owned by Wall Street, the Bankers, and pals -- to cry about 'white racism' and import more Balkanizing, labor cutting scab third worlders, who will be promptly and very cheaply employed by the 'right' --actually the center of right and owned by Wall Street , the Bankers, and pals -- to displace us rightful citizens of our birthrights, and of our nationhood.

Empires tend to crash from the center and hard, and tend to create radicals right about on cue to provide for this crash; and 'America' or the 'USA' is an empire and it is full of apathetic people that will radicalize, in the fullest sense of the word. It surely is not a republic -- if indeed it ever was any such thing; it is not a democracy; nor is it open; or just; or very effective at either getting; or getting out of the way of the citizens getting the little things like food, clothes and warmth at night that 'tribal' living provided back at the dawn of history. That I even think in tribal terms is 'socialism' to the toonies, but then so are taxes.

I didn't mean to make light of the fact innocent children are being brainwashed by what is, undoubtedly, a harmful libertarian dogma, but I honestly don't see what can be done about it at this point. We can try to reason with their parents, and address the wider issue of libertarianism and Objectivism in our activism, but it's not as though we have the authority to do anything beyond that. However, in the case of the summer camp addressed in the video, I doubt they'll be teaching specifically Objectivism, since it's overtly atheist—and one of the values this camp is supposed to instill in children is that of "faith" (alongside the glories of "liberty," "free markets," and "limited government").

Ayn Rand's significant work dates back to the early '40s and she had been in the public spotlight for decades afterwards. The Fountain Head and Atlas Shrugged are even required reading in certain high school and college courses, but I wouldn't say its had an enormous influence among the collective consciousness of the United States or anything. Rand's meager popularity can mainly be attributed to the fact she romanticized the bourgeoisie. Even now, when her work is enjoying something of a revival due to the TEA Party fanatics, it's still only on the margins of society. Her "philosophy" was little more than a bastardized, bourgeoisified version of vulgar Nietzscheism that happened to be particularly useful for the establishment during the Cold War period. Objectivism is merely another form of capitalist apologia, virtually indistinguishable from libertarianism, the Austrian school economics, neoclassical economics, and neoliberialism. The crux of the issue is capitalism itself—abolish that mode of production and the apologists will lose their raison d'être.
