Re: Hugo Chávez is dead
This is distressing news.. Chávez was an inspiring and principled man, and I'm sure the people of Venezuela will mourn his loss.
Let us hope his successor honors his memory by carrying the Bolivarian Revolution forward.

Distressing news indeed. This is a precarious time for Venezuela. If it is to continue developing along progressive lines, it will require as committed a leader as Chávez.

I wonder how the US will react to this. Let us hope that Venezuela continues to march forward under the banner of socialism and does not shift towards the right. Chavez was a much respected leader of the Venezuelan people and a man of integrity.

Well I'm sure the US and bourgeois Latin American nations are rubbing there hands together. With Chaves dead I'd be surprised if his party will be able to work with each other let alone win the next election, assuming they they make it to the next election of course.

Re: Hugo Chávez is dead
I'm not glad about his death nor am I really that upset about it. His politics is really bare-bones and the cases of participatory democracy were too small in scale. That and I hate his support for Gaddafi. His authoritarianism doesn't go anywhere beyond his predecessors, and he actually did promote democracy somewhat. I think the only opinion I can make of this is one big meh.
Though, I guess Chavez dying would prevent the slow slide towards increased presidential power that had occurred during his presidency.
(Also, a former bus driver being a president is not a bad thing, unless you're an elitist jerk. *Looks at Debate Politics*)
