'The British'
Did any one see that load of pap on Sky Atlantic last night?
Billed as a history of the British people, it follows the usual schoolboy history crap that we have come to love from the BBC. Last night, episode 1, it dealt with the Roman occupation (loosely). It dismissed the pre-Romano-British culture as something that was simply here before the Roman arrived. It spoke glowingly of the benefits of Roman civilisation, usual things, roads, stone buildings as opposed to mud huts, central heating and bathhouses. It mentioned Gladiatorial competition as if it was some kind of boxing match rather than a simple bloodfest. It failed to mention the countless numbers of Britons transported to work as slaves for the benefit of the Empire, it skipped the fact that the slaughter and bloodshed of the arrival of the Roman legions was swiftly followed by 'profiteers' ready to carve up the British islands into estates for the benefit of the new Roman overlords. It never mentioned Boudicca and other than mentioning the last stand of the Druids on Anglesey, gave the impression that Roman rule was largely welcomed .
The series is in twelve parts, if it follows the usual 'British History' format, most of those episodes will only deal with Britain once the peoples from Africa and Asia begin to arrive.
My advice, don't waste you time watching this crap. If anyone is really interested in British history, read a book before TV and the internet completely sanitise our history, making it, like everything else P.C.
