Wow, that is a very interesting thread! I damn near want to sign up on RevLeft right now, just to jump in that thread and jump down the throats of those liberal faux-revolutionaries crying about patriotism and nationalism. Notice that the biggest anti-'patriotism' bunch on this thread are freaking anarchist idiots who actually would fit the description of being anti-Euro-ethnic racists, and who always have Nazis dancing in their heads when they hear the words patriotism and nationalism...even when such terms are used by THE PORTUGUESE COMMUNIST PARTY!
Yeah, they definitely represent the sort of full-of-shit 'Leftists' that I love to hate---druggie, neo-hippie, fad-anarchist, trendy exoticist. foriegner-friendly exploiting, anti-Euro-ethnic haters who have the hypocritical nerve to talk about being against imperialism/colonialism WHILST THEY THEMSELVES ABET AND PRACTICE IT! However, I am positively surprised by the several on this RevLeft thread who have actually attempted to defend a progressive patriotism-nationalism as ostensible revolutionary socialists. This seems to be a good sign in my opinion. Opportunity awaits us?

They certainly enjoy constructing false dichotomies in order to justify their cosmopolitanism. (Actually, it's probably more of a Pavlovian response at this point.) The fact is that love for one's nation does not inherently negate commitment to class struggle, international or otherwise.

These cowards will forever condemn their particular revolutionary principles to the margins of Western society. They are completely out of sync with the people's sentiments.
