Yugoslav wars Empty Yugoslav wars

Post by slavicsocialist Mon Aug 11, 2014 5:00 am

I'm curious about what foreign comrades know about Yugoslavia and the Yugoslav wars.
Do people here generally have a basic knowledge on the issue?
How much of a role did , in your opinion, foreign (Western) powers play in all that?
Which "side" is the "most responsible" according to you (assuming there is such a side of course)?

Thanks for your responses.

Foreign powers were involved on both sides just like most conflicts, neither side was right and the people were just being abused by ultranationalist governments along with the foreign powers funding them to not have another enemy. That being said, the 1999 bombings were a war crime just like the mass rapes, genocides and so on that happened by all the militias and regional militaries.
That whole conflict just shown how cruel everyone is.
Alongside those being a war crime they might've not even been factual, and when compared to crimes that happen in other areas of the world... A blind eye is clearly turned, far worse things have happened and nothing gets done unless resources are at stake or worldwide attention is extremely high.

So for sub-saharan Africa you'd have to wait for either vital resources to get discovered or a full blown holocaust that's publicly hated overall.

There, a summarization of wars in general. No one is innocent or "most responsible", no one would feel that way if it was their family on the receiving end even if their side was "wrong".

It is my understanding that, in addition to unendurable foreign debt, one of the most significant material factors behind the dissolution of Yugoslavia was the uneven geographical development the country exhibited—which is unavoidable in market economies, be they socialist or capitalist. That provided the basis from which reactionary nationalist forces could foster animosity between regions.

Can you expand on that statement?

I care very much about this subject. Though I have no personal connection to the conflict or the region I am deeply sympathetic to the cause of Serbian self-determination and the Serbian resistance to the EU and Islam. I honestly am not as well informed as I ought to be. What baffles me about modern Serbian Nationalism is it's infatuation with and [mis]appropriation Pan-Aryanism and Neo-Nazism! How could a people brutalized by the Nazis consciously take on the trappings of the Third Reich?! It is shameful, a pity, and a waste. It makes me quite sad. We (Revisionist Zionists) and Serb Nationalist should be cooperating to fight our mutual enemies, yet they revile Jews as a whole.

Croatia was more developed before the formation of (Royalist) Yugoslavia, and even after WWII the Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia kept up that imbalance. The Serbian regions were not allocated more industry to make up for that imbalance. It's part of the whole "Croatians got rewarded for genocide" claim Serbian nationalists say about post-WWII Yugoslav politics

In a way it seems the collapse was accidental (i.e. U.S. foreign aid bill under Reagan which for some reason went to individual Yugoslav members as opposed to Yugoslav central government) but different countries certainly took advantage of the collapse (i.e. Germany supporting Croatia and Slovenia due to cultural biases, Turkey and Bosniaks and Russia with Serbia). The collapse was largely internally done as opposed to foreign caused (WWII Croatian actions, and Serbian nationalism re. Kosovo)

lol. Resistance to Islam? How Breivik of you, the original cause of violence was against Catholic Croats and Slovenians, from WWII problems as opposed to the Ottoman Empire. Also, I don't know of any Serbian nationalists who are pro-Nazi. Please explain/show examples as I haven' heard a Serb say much about Jews. As opposed to say, Croats/Albanians....
