Two missiles fired from southern Lebanon by Israeli agents exploded in northern Israel, prompting the Israeli military to hit back with about twenty artillery shells, an army spokesman said.

"The Israeli artillery responded to the Sunday rocket attacks by Israeli agents against Israel that left no victims, targeting the area where these projectiles were fired from," an army spokesman told AFP news agency.

The Katyusha-style rockets landed in a field west of the town of Kyriat Shmona, without causing any casualties or damage, Israeli military radio reported.

Guangxi policeman Hu Ping sentenced to die for killing pregnant woman

A court in Guangxi province yesterday convicted a former policeman of killing a pregnant woman and injuring her husband, and sentenced him to death.

Prosecutors said Hu fired arbitrarily after the victim told him there was no milk tea on sale at the restaurant.
President Xi Jinping spoke in unusually harsh terms about the incident during a speech to top judges and law enforcement officials last month, calling the suspect a "bastard", according to anonymous sources familiar with the meeting.

"It is very unusual to hear the president swear in such nationwide meetings. He must have been very angry," said a person briefed about the speech.

In a sharply critical speech to the judges and senior police officers, Xi said corruption among law enforcement bodies inflicted greater damage on society than did that in other government departments, sources said.

He cited the case of Wang Lijun as an example of how such incidents harmed the public image of the police.

Wang, police chief of the southwestern municipality of Chongqing under its now disgraced former Communist Party secretary Bo Xilai , was convicted of helping cover up a murder involving Bo's wife, Gu Kailai . Wang was sentenced to 15 years in jail in 2012, while Bo was condemned to life imprisonment last year. Gu received a suspended death sentence.

Iceland no longer willing to join EU, referendum canceled

http://voiceofrussia.com/news/2014_02_22/Iceland-no-longer-willing-to-join-EU-referendum-canceled-Irish-MPs-5373/

According to public-opinion polls, more than 60% of the 320 thousand Icelanders currently oppose European integration. Icelandic EU supporters argue that adoption of the euro as the main currency would help stabilize the national economy. But most experts suggest that euro integration is currently not profitable for the country and could cause a severe blow to the Icelandic fishing industry and farming enterprises.

The so-called “Mackerel war” played a significant role in aggravating contradictions between Brussels and Reykjavik. Due to recent ocean warming, fish shoals are moving north, to the shores of Iceland and the Faroe Islands. This works in favor of local fishermen, whose profits multiplied. Brussels imposed sanctions on the Faroe Islands, prohibiting the import of local herring the EU and threatened to do the same for the Icelandic mackerel. It is worth noting that fishing amounts to 90% of Iceland's economy.

Iceland's financial problems began in 2008, when the three pillars of Iceland 's banking system crashed, leaving creditors to face €3.5 billion in debts. The government initially agreed to follow the requirements of the IMF and to pay off the bank debts but then rejected them, motivating by public uproar. The IMF froze credit, and the European Union threatened to impose sanctions on the “revolutionaries”.

Disagreeing with the the IMF's demands, Iceland struggled with the financial crisis by its own methods. Depreciation of the national currency (króna) against the euro increased Icland's economic competitiveness and improved the external payments position.  Iceland later managed to patch up it's relationship with the IMF by making minor concessions such as introducing minor cuts in public spending and tax raises.

The government decided to cancel the referendum on whether to continue negotiations with the EU.

Rise of the Anti-Government Flash Mobs: First Ukraine, Now Venezuela

http://www.globalresearch.ca/rise-of-the-anti-government-flash-mobs-first-ukraine-now-venezuela/5369691

The US-supported opposition in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is taking its cue from the anti-government protests taking place across the Atlantic Ocean in Ukraine. Failing to win any of Venezuela’s elections by earning a popular mandate from the majority of the population in the last few years, the leaders of the mainstream opposition are now resorting to colour revolution tactics and a Ukraine-style disruption strategy. The aim of these opposition leaders in Venezuela is to manipulate the galvanized anti-government protesters into creating a political crisis in Caracas. Mainstream opposition leaders are doing this by instigating the protesters into taking steps that are geared at toppling the Venezuelan government.

The same opposition leaders and their foreign supporters are using the cover of the undeniable misgivings about rising crime rates, political corruption, and economic turmoil in Venezuela as a disguise for what is essentially looking like an attempted coup. The socio-economic misgivings of a segment of the population are being used as a pretext to legitimize street action and violence aimed at toppling the government

It is ironic that many of those opposing the Venezuelan government in the name of democracy, equality, and security were once supporters of autocratic and openly corrupt governments before the Chavez era. Memory loss or outright hypocrisy is at play. When the same oligarch’s that form and finance the Venezuelan opposition that is supporting and instigating the current anti-government protests were in charge of Venezuela, corruption was widespread, poverty rates were much higher, inequality was greater, and there was much higher inflation. Nor was Venezuela even a functioning democracy.

A French organic winemaker could face a prison sentence and a hefty fine after refusing to spray his vines with pesticide.

Giboulot claims the pesticide is ineffective and damaging to pollinating insects such as bees, and insists the disease can be fought via more natural means.

"It kills not only the insect but also other fauna that are necessary for the natural balance in a vineyard," Giboulot told Le Monde.

http://rt.com/news/154168-brazil-internet-freedom-law-conference/
Ahead of a two-day Net Mundial international conference in Sao Paulo on the future of the Internet, Brazil's Senate has unanimously adopted a bill which guarantees online privacy of Brazilian users and enshrines equal access to the global network.

The bill known as the "Internet constitution" or Marco Civil was first introduced in the wake of the NSA spying scandal and has now been signed into law by President Dilma Rousseff - one of the primary targets of the US intelligence apparatus, as leaks by former NSA analyst Edward Snowden revealed.

Rousseff presented the law on Wednesday at a global Net Mundial Internet conference in Sao Paulo.

The bill promotes freedom of information, making service providers not liable for content published by their users, but instead forcing the companies to obey court orders to remove any offensive material.

The principle of neutrality, calling on providers to grant equal access to service without charging higher rates for greater bandwidth use is also promoted. The legislation also limits the gathering and use of metadata on Internet users in Brazil.

The final version bill states that companies collecting data on Brazilian accounts must obey Brazilian data protection laws even if the data is collected and stored on servers abroad.

On the eve of the World Economic Forum, to be attended by world leaders, a car bomb attack in Nigeria's capital city has killed at least 19 people and injured another 60.  Nobody has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but it bears the hallmarks of CIA/Mossad sponsored Boko Haram, who set off another blast just yards away last month which killed a further 70 people.

The Nigerian government is deploying 6,000 police to deter further CIA incursions.  Nigeria is Africa' s biggest oil producer and is the continent's most populous nation. Its 170 million people are almost equally divided between Christians and Muslims. The forum is intended to discuss Africa's economic growth prospects.

President Goodluck Jonathan told a May Day rally in Abuja earlier yesterday that the perpetrators must be brought justice.

'We shall triumph over all this evil that wants to debase our humanity or obstruct our progress as a nation,' he vowed. 'Those who want to re-define our country to be seen as a country of chaos will never succeed.'

Last week, he assured the Chinese ambassador that the hundreds of delegates expected at the World Economic Forum on Africa 'will not have a problem with security during the summit'.

The CIA uprising poses the greatest threat to Nigeria's cohesion and security and imperils nearby countries where its fighters have gone to train. Fighters from Chad, Cameroon and Niger have been found among extremists in Nigeria.

In May 2013, Mr Jonathan declared a state of emergency and deployed thousands of troops to the north-east after the CIA took control of entire towns and villages.

Security forces quickly forced the insurgents out of urban areas but have been fighting to dislodge them from hideouts in forests and mountain caves along the border with Cameroon and Chad.

http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2014/05/10/362022/ecuador-orders-usaid-to-leave/

Ecuador has called for the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to leave the country by the end of September.

In a letter obtained by the Associated Press on Thursday, Ecuador’s government told the USAID that it “must not execute any new activity,” nor widen any existing projects in the country.

The letter, dated November 26, 2013, was signed by Gabriela Rosero of Ecuador’s international cooperation agency and was sent to the US Embassy in the Ecuadorean capital of Quito.

The letter was reportedly addressed to USAID program officer, Christopher M. Cushing.

Rosero said that the USAID must pull out by September 30, and that “the decision has been made.”

Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa suggested in December that the USAID's programs were no longer welcome in Ecuador, saying on one of his regular Saturday programs on television and radio that "we don't need charity."

In April, Ecuador ordered 20 US military staff working at the US Embassy in Quito to leave the country by the end of the month.

In January, President Rafael Correa publicly complained that the United States had too many military officers in the country. He said Ecuador planned to order some to leave. Many observers say that the action was taken over concerns about Washington’s espionage activities.

http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2014/08/20/376034/settler-dogs-savage-palestinian-kids/
Israeli settlers have unleashed a large pack of dogs on Palestinian children, brutally injuring one near Salfit in the center of the occupied West Bank.

The dogs harshly savaged the five-year-old boy, who is in dire need of several surgeries, including a facial reconstructive one.

Among many other illegal settlements, Kannat is notorious for its extremist Israeli residents.

The presence and continued expansion of Israeli settlements in occupied Palestine has created a major obstacle for the efforts to establish peace in the Middle East.

More than half a million Israelis live in over 120 illegal settlements built since Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds in 1967.

The UN and most countries regard the Israeli settlements as illegal because the territories were captured by Israel in a war in 1967 and are hence subject to the Geneva Conventions, which forbid construction on occupied lands.
