New generation of Americans

Post by RedBrasil on Thu Mar 07, 2013 7:21 am

It's pretty obvious that americans are in the vast majority anti-socialists, people are brainwashed since birth, americans tend to believe in notions like the american dream, like to associate socialism with stalinism and capitalism with freedom

But what are your thoughts about the new generation, I mean, teenagers and young adults ? Do you think americans are starting to have a more socialist soul?

The combined legacies of the Red Scare, McCarthyism, and the Cold War—in addition to the historically anomalous creation of a sizable middle class—undoubtedly succeeded in psychologically manipulating several generations of Americans to be opposed to anything even remotely affiliated with socialism or communism.

Fortunately this history is beginning to recede from the collective consciousness, and young Americans are no longer hostile to the notion of socialism. In fact, a recent study found that 49% of people between the ages of 18-29 in the United States claim to have a favorable view of socialism, whereas only 43% percent have a negative view thereof. Of course one could question what the individuals polled had in mind when they thought of socialism, but the fact the word no longer holds the connotations it once did is a sign of progress in itself.

Every nationality, great or small, has the incontestable right to be itself, to live according to its own nature. This right is simply the corollary of the general principle of freedom."

I'd say that the younger people of the us are more likely to not only have a favorable view of socialism and communism, but also are more likely to not be ignorant on the topic. Sadly, however, this is not the truth with other age groups.
