People say that Bakunin's teachings are the most important, while others say Proudhorn, and Kropotkin. It also goes on to Makhuno, and Emma Goldman, and even Leo Toltsy. But whose ideas are the most important,or all they all equal?

It really depends on which school of anarchist thought you adhere to. If you're an individualist anarchist, I'd say Proudhon's work was the most influential. The most important collectivist anarchist, in my opinion, was Bakunin.

Who is the most important anarchist? Empty Anarchist ideology

Post by Egalitarian Sun Aug 26, 2012 1:32 pm

It seems to me that the majority of people who resent socialist ideologies are quick to call anarchy out, insincerely, as a non-democratic and mindless ideology engulfed in destruction. I think it is beyond apparent that this claim is false and is a misnomer. My troubles of this lie here: How can the bourgeois definition easily be refuted as to determine the real anarchist outlook?

It will never happen for the majority of people unless the media paints a pretty picture of Anarchism, which they won't as Anarchists are a threat to the owners of the media and anyone who else who holds power/influence. Personally I think that people cannot claim anything if they know nothing about the topic they are discussing e.g. Communism is bad. A prime example because the people who say that have no idea what Communism is and do not know that it has never been implemented as of this moment. Same with Anarchism.

EDIT: Same as Anarchism in terms of not knowing what it is about.

The trouble is that people associate the word "anarchy" with disorder and chaos (e.g., 'the region has descended into a state of anarchy and barbarism'), thereby increasing the difficulty in having a sensible discussion regarding the theory. Nevertheless, it's useful to begin explaining anarchist political philosophy by invoking Pierre-Joseph Proudhon's quote, "liberty: not the daughter, but the mother of order"—in other words, legitimate order arises organically from conditions of genuine liberty (anarchism), not from state mandate. From there I would proceed to explain the principles of self-management, free association, and mutual aid.
